In this article, you will learn how long a module should take you and your students to complete and how curriculum hours can help you plan your classes.

What is a Curriculum Hour?

A curriculum hour is the amount of time it will take students to complete work in a module. Each hour is based on a 45-50 minute class period, so they are not considered true 60-minute hours.

Modules are composed of units. Units are groups of lessons or activities with resources for teachers and students within a module.

You can use curriculum hours to measure the number of class periods it will take to cover a module in AES.

Where Can You Find the Curriculum Hours?

In Your Course Catalog

You can find curriculum hours on the catalog screen as part of a module description in a template.

Step 1

Click on the Catalog tab in the upper righthand corner.

Step 2

In the menu on the left side of the screen, you’ll find course templates. When you click on a template, you’ll be able to review the learning modules within that template.

Step 3

Click on a learning module to see all of the content in the module, along with the estimated number of curriculum hours for each unit within that module. This information can help you decide if the module is a good fit for your class.

In Your Class Period

Once you have created a class, you can find the number of hours for each module on the assignment details page.

Step 1

Click on your class period from your My Classes tab.

Step 2

Select the Assignments tab at the top. The page will bring up the assignment list, which lists each module and the number of hours included.

Step 3

Click on a module to find every unit within that module. Under each, you can see the estimated number of hours it will take students to complete that unit.

How Can You Use the Curriculum Hours to Plan Your Syllabus?

The curriculum hours help you plan and pace your class.

You can easily remove units that you don’t plan on covering in a class. So, you only teach the material you need to cover in your course. This will help you get an accurate estimate of the number of class hours it will take you and your students to complete a module.

When you remove a unit or activity from the class, the overall number of curriculum hours updates automatically.

Curriculum hours will help you better plan your due dates, classroom activities, and assessments.

More Information on Managing Your Classes
